Display Boot-up "Splash"

Guide to Customizing Your Controller Board Startup "Splash" Image

Adding a custom startup logo or image is a great way to personalize your display, reinforce your brand, or create a professional look. This guide explains the image specifications for various Digital View controllers to ensure your image displays correctly on the splash screen.

DV will then embed the image in the firmware for the controller board.

The Splash Image Specifications

The table below outlines the required specifications for startup logos based on the specific display controller model. It's crucial to follow these guidelines precisely. Using an incorrect image resolution, color depth, or file format will not work.

Here is a breakdown of the key columns:

  • CONTROLLER: This is the specific model of your display controller. Use this to find the correct specifications for your system.
  • LOGO RESOLUTION: This indicates the exact pixel dimensions (width x height) your logo image must be. Note that this is not the same as the maximum resolution of the LCD display itself. For example, while the SVX-4096 controller supports a high-resolution display of 4096x2160, its startup logo must be exactly 384x288 pixels.
  • LOGO COLOR: This refers to the color depth or the number of colors your image can contain. This is a critical detail.
    • 2, 4, and 256 are common values. The values 2 and 4 indicate a very limited color palette, suitable for simple, high-contrast designs. A value of 256 allows for a much broader range of colors.
  • FILE FORMAT: This is the specific file type your logo must be saved as when it is sent to us. The most common formats are Bitmap and JPG.

Tips for Creating Your Logo

  1. Use the Correct Dimensions: The logo resolution is the most important factor. Always resize your image to the exact dimensions specified for your controller model. Do not use an image that is larger or smaller than the required resolution. You can use image editing software like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP for this task.
  2. Match the Color Depth: Pay close attention to the logo color value. If your controller requires a color depth of 2 or 4, your design should be simple and high-contrast, such as a black-and-white or a two-color logo. For a color depth of 256, you can use a more detailed, full-color image. If your image has more colors than the required depth, it will likely be automatically converted, which can lead to color distortion.
  3. Save in the Right Format: After editing your image, save it using the specified file format. If the table says Bitmap, save your file as a .bmp file. If it says JPG, save it as a .jpg file.
  4. Transferring the File: Once your logo file is correctly prepared, follow the instructions provided in your controller's manual to upload it. This usually involves using a USB drive or a specific software tool to transfer the file to the display controller's memory.

By carefully following these steps, you'll be able to successfully display your custom startup logo and create a polished, professional look for your device. If you encounter issues, double-check that every specification—resolution, color depth, and file format—has been met precisely.
