Looking for true sunlight readable digital sign?

E Ink displays are reflective, so they rely on ambient light such as sunlight, they do not rely on self lighting to be visible in sunlight. This feature and the ultra-low power consumption (suitable for solar) is why E Ink panels are being in display projects for park signboards, transport signage and a wide range of other signage applications.



Need an outdoor digital sign but there is no power?

This is the other aspect where epaper based displays really excel. The display itself consumes zero power to hold an image so it is only the other electronics that consumes power. With suitable system it is easy top have a display system that operates completely independently with solar and/or wind power together with a rechargeable battery.

Thanks to this very low power requirement there are a number of power options:
- AC to DC power (if available)
- Solar &/or wind power with a rechargeable battery
- POE (Power over Ethernet)

E Ink based displays are good candidates for solar power and alternatives. The displays themselves only use power to change the image, they use ZERO power to display an image. So unlike LCD and LED displays, if there is a power failure the image remains on the display without any loss of visibility.

The other parts of an E Ink display system do use power and various methodscan be used to minimize the power draw when the image is not being updated.
