CHARLOTTE, NC - The Elevator Channel is a premier provider of news, information, advertising and entertainment displayed on flat-panel digital video screens in the one place it's guaranteed to be seen by consumers: the elevators in upscale office towers, during a time when these people are completely isolated from other media. When executives of The Elevator Channel determined they needed to cut capital and operating costs, respond to growth opportunities, and focus on just being a media company, they turned to Digital View. Since its inception in 2001, the Charlotte-based firm has been managing its elevator-based network of display screens, associated hardware, software and hosting services in-house. By outsourcing the technological aspects of the company's business to Digital View, beginning in July 2005, the company has dramatically reduced its costs and in return adopted a best in class networked media solution that will allow the company to rapidly expand and operate seamlessly in several markets across North America. With the advent of its partnership with Digital View, the Elevator Channel is retrofitting all of its current locations in Charlotte and this fall will be adding more than 100 more screens in downtown skyscrapers. "This is an exciting and pivotal point in the company's history," says Elevator Channel Chief Executive Officer Rudy Alexander. "Our recent expansion efforts demonstrate just how beneficial the company's new partnership with Digital View will be for our profitability and growth. Now we're positioned as a pure media company and equipped for rapid expansion." Digital View is supplying its industry leading Digital View RP3 Plus video players, using solid state flash memory cards whose content is renewed according to Elevator Channel's media campaign schedule, which are distributed using Internet connections. The programming takes full advantage of the split screen and auto-generated RSS content capabilities that are part of the Digital View Remote Transfer managed service. The installation involves 15 inch LCD screens mounted inside the elevator cabs, driven by the RP3 players. Elevator Channel uses broadband connectivity to make content and scheduling instructions available to the Remote Players. Key advantages of working with Digital View were the low cost of the players and the managed service, and with the help of Digital View's in-house engineering capabilities, custom solutions that have enabled Elevator Channel to re-use much of the equipment originally installed. Both wired and wireless solutions are being used over the Elevator Channel network. Digital View already had considerable experience working in the challenging elevator environment, with installations through its client POV-TV in Thailand, and staff with direct experience deploying and managing large-scale elevator based networks.
