## Firmware

### Current Version

BIOS: V1.00.00.00 (Flash GD25Q16CTIGR on U18)

### Firmware Upgrade

Firmware can be upgraded via the DisplayPort connector, or via the HDMI port with an adaptor. A firmware upgrade manual is available on request from Digital View.

### Firmware Version Query (RS-232)

Send command `0xCB, "0"` to read the BIOS version. Returns format `VV.YY.ZZ.AA` where:
- V = Release version (E = Engineering Sample)
- YY = Version number
- ZZ = Customer number
- AA = Revision number

## IR Remote Control

### Digital View Remote P/N 5590001xx-3

| Button | Function |
|--------|----------|
| POWER | Soft power ON/OFF |
| SEL UP (▲) | In OSD: move to previous level of selection |
| SEL DN (▼) | In OSD: move to next level of selection or confirm |
| + | In OSD: select functions (forward) or increase values |
| − | In OSD: select functions (backward) or decrease values |
| AV/TV | Select input source (HDMI / DisplayPort) |
| OSD NEXT | Turn OSD menu on/off |
| MUTE | Mute / un-mute audio |

The IR sensor connects to the IR1 connector on the controller board.

## Ambient Light Sensor

The ALC-4096 provides an interface for automatic backlight adjustment based on ambient light levels via the CN6 connector.

### Connection Options

| Option | Part Number |
|--------|-------------|
| Light sensor cable (with sensor) | 426321940-3 (1000mm) |
| Light sensor board | 416021310-3 or 416021330-3 |
| Light sensor cable (for board) | 426305900-3 (1250mm) |

### Configuration

The light sensor is configured via:

1. **OSD Factory menu:** Enable/disable the light sensor function.
2. **RS-232 commands (0xEE, 0x78):** Configure up to 12 ambient light threshold levels and 12 corresponding backlight brightness levels.
3. **Digital View TCP-IP Serial Utility (V1.14 or later):** User-friendly software for setting thresholds.

### How It Works

When enabled, the controller reads ambient light values from the sensor connected to CN6 and automatically adjusts the LCD panel backlight brightness according to the configured threshold/backlight mapping table. This allows the display to adapt to changing lighting conditions.

### Sensor Query (RS-232)

- Query light sensor value: `0xEE, 0x70, 0x50, 0x35, 0x33, 0x3F`
- Query onboard temperature sensor: `0xEE, 0x70, 0x50, 0x3B, 0x34, 0x3F`

## Troubleshooting

### General Approach

Consider the system as separate elements and use step-by-step elimination:
- Controller (jumpers, settings)
- Panel (cables, connections)
- Backlight (inverter, tubes)
- Cabling
- Computer system (display settings, OS)

### Common Issues

**No image:**
- Check if backlight is working (you may still faintly see an image without backlight).
- Most likely causes: incorrect connection, no power, no signal, incorrect graphics card settings.

**Image appearance problems:**
- Blank lines, failed sections, flickering → faulty panel
- Wrong size, scrolling, bad flicker → incorrect refresh rate, resolution, or interlaced mode
- Total failure or incorrect image → incorrect jumper settings. **CAUTION:** Do not set panel power incorrectly.
- Sparkling on display → faulty panel signal cable
- "Loading" message at HDMI/DVI input → unstable source detected (common with HDMI splitters)

**Backlight issues:**
- Check in order: power input, controls, inverter, tubes
- Half-screen dimmer → check inverter cabling; check AC pin orientation (never reverse DC pins)
- Brightness control has no effect → VR rating or connection method incompatible with inverter

**Continued failures:**
- Investigate whether short circuits or other serious wiring errors exist.
- Use step-by-step substitution of known working parts to isolate the problem.
