Digital View announces new solution for digital signage compliance and control

Digital View has launched a Network Device which offers digital signage network operators, and others, an easy and cost-effective way to manage remote equipment

London, (31 August 2007). Digital signage network operators will find power management and compliance reporting easier and more cost-effective than ever before, thanks to a new product from Digital View (www.digitalview.com). Designed to facilitate the detection, monitoring and control of screens in a network, the IP-50 is also suitable for control and diagnostics of self-service kiosks, industrial control equipment and other devices with RS-232 support.

The need to know whether screens in a digital signage network are performing to schedule (that is, compliance) is an increasingly important challenge, as is power management and display fault diagnosis. Until now, however, there have been no simple and effective solutions which offer centralised management of these issues. The new Digital View product offers a simple and cost-effective approach to the problem.

Providing a web page interface and Internet connection for devices with RS-232 support, the Digital View IP-50 is an network to RS-232 interface device with an integrated web server which allows users to design their own web pages for product control. Connected devices can then be controlled and interrogated remotely. The first version of the product (which will support the Digital View SVH-1920 controller) will have a pre-defined web page that shows the principle functions of the controller and will enable remote network control of the monitor. Available functions include switching the monitor on/off and also detecting whether or not it is turned on, together with a range of functions far beyond this. It would even be possible for equipment to have environmental sensors for diagnostics such as water level, humidity, temperature etc.

As well as the product itself, Digital View will also release other web support code, which will be freely available for development purposes. This code, along with some technical support and advice, will be available via the Digital View website.

The IP-50 is available as either an enclosed product with RS-232, Ethernet and Power connectors, or as an OEM board level product (i.e. a PCB) for product integration. It will include a header (internal type connector) for RS-232 and power connections.

The product is available now.
