Latest media players for digital signage target niche markets

Digital View's latest offering for the digital signage network market builds upon a highly successful range

London, (8 May 2007) Digital View (www.digitalview.com) has further enhanced its line-up of advanced media players for digital signage, with the introduction of the RemotePlayer™ RP-710. The product offers media network owners a higly reliable and robust solution for digital signage applications in more demanding environments.

Designed to deliver the performance, control and cost-effectiveness demanded by today's digital signage advertising and marketing networks, Digital View's RemotePlayer PR-710 is built around an industrial grade embedded motherboard and a fanless design. In addition to being fanless, with high endurance hard-disks, the product has fully solid-state storage options up to 32GB, thus eliminating the most common point of failure and source of maintenance in media players. Another important benefit of being fanless and solid-state is silent operation. The unit has been attractively styled and carefully thought-out for ease of use and suitability to the digital signage market, and is of particular benefit in applications where the media player location is dusty or prone to vibration. The RP-710 is part of a range that has proved extremely successful across a range of sectors, and the products have been a particularly popular choice for digital signage applications where a combination of high performance and high-reliability is key.

Using the processing power of an embedded 1.8MHz Pentium M-class CPU, this latest addition to the RemotePlayer series, the RP-710, delivers faultless MPEG 1, 2 video playback, and supports High-Definition and widescreen video playback, as well as the latest MPEG 4 video standards and Macromedia Shockwave Flash. Designed to deal with the 24/7 demands of digital media networks, the product’s fanless design and rugged hard disk drive options will last in the field for years while providing the large storage capacity necessary for HD media.

Custom-designed by Digital View, the RP-700 series is Linux-compatible for high reliability, and recommended for use with RemoteTransfer™, the leading web-based digital signage content management software used by a large number of retailers and out-of-home media operators. The product is perfect for space-sensitive applications, and supports the requirements of large, scaled networks that are using the latest large-format display technology, from LCDs and plasmas to projection systems and LED walls.

"Reliability and cost-effectiveness have always been a key issue for most users," commented James Henry, Chairman of Digital View, "and it's more than ever the case today. At the same time, network operators increasingly demand sophisticated control functionality, as well as the ability to support high resolutions and the latest video standards. Products such as the RP-710 deliver all these needs through our unique and proven design approach, coupled with over a decade's experience of building successful products for this market."
