Digital View further extends digital signage media player line-up

The Viewstream HD-1 from Digital View meets a growing market requirement for an entry-level, non-networked media player which does not compromise on image quality

London, (12 March 2007) Digital View (www.digitalview.com) has further extended it's popular line of digital media players. A highly cost-effective solution designed for non-networked digital signage applications where a simple looping video is required on wide-screen displays, the new product also supports 720p video output.

Digital View's Viewstream range of media players is widely used in a variety of out-of-home digital signage applications, though it is principally used in the retail sector. However, while the existing Viewstream line-up meets the requirements of most, there is a clear demand for a version which meets basic screen media needs without the more advanced functionality offered by the others in the range. The new product, the Viewstream HD-1, is designed to meet this demand.

Supporting MPEG-1 and MPEG-4, as well as JPG format for still images, the Viewstream HD-1 also supports component video output with 720p (1280 x 720 resolution) output. This resolution is increasingly demanded by users looking to display high quality content.

"As the benefits of screen media become increasingly clear, the demand for solutions is inevitably growing," commented James Henry, Chairman of Digital View. "While many want sophisticated systems, there is a clear market segment which requires entry-level functionality without compromising on image quality. This new product meets this need perfectly, and makes our Viewstream range the most comprehensive range of stand-alone media players in the market."

James Henry's view that the demand for digital signage is growing is supported by respected data sources. For example, the latest edition of the Samsung Screen Survey, now recognised as the most comprehensive measure of UK retail screen media usage, recently revealed that there has been an increase in screen installation of 245% compared with 2 years ago. The survey also found that the majority of screens are 21-42", and that LCD/TFT/Plasma is now the most commonly used technology.
