Latest firmware sets new market standard for digital signage media players

A major upgrade to Digital View's RemoteTransfer™ media player technology offers real benefits to operators of screen media networks

London, (15 Sept 2007) Digital View has announced a major upgrade to the already powerful RemoteTransfer™ media player firmware at the heart of its PC-based 700-series media players designed for use in retail, advertising and marketing digital signage networks. Version 2.5 of Digital View's firmware brings a range of enhanced benefits to operators of screen media networks based on the company’s established RemotePlayer and RemoteTransfer™ technology, including support for full 720p High-Definition video and screen resolutions up to 1920 x 1080.

Digital View's RP-700 Series of media players is designed to deal with the 24/7 demands of digital signage networks, and already offers advanced features such as widescreen video playback, the latest MPEG 4 video standards and official support for Macromedia™ Shockwave Flash. The latest firmware release, version 2.5, takes the players to a new standard of functionality, believed by Digital View to be unrivalled in the marketplace, offering a range of benefits increasingly required by today’s digital signage environment. These benefits include full 720p high-definition support (up to 1920x1080) for a wide range of screens and player hardware; smooth "no pause" video playback; split screen with "infinitely variable" video window size and "minizone" advertising playlist support and full Centrepoint™-based synchronisation/power control support for all media types.

With a range of powerful (and optionally fanless) CPUs and available rugged, high-endurance hard disk drives, the RP-700 series is designed to last in the field for years while providing the large storage capacity necessary for HD media. The range includes a generic model, as well as models designed for specific manufacturer environments, such as IBM, Dell and Wyse. There is also a version designed in the ultra-compact form factor necessary for many digital signage installations.

"With any technology based product, it's essential to continually add features and improve quality while reducing cost," said Ian Larkman, retail solutions manager at Digital View. "These further enhancements have raised the price-performance bar yet another notch, and keep our core technology at the leading edge of digital media development."
