Accurate digital signage reporting now fast and easy for screen-media operators

RemoteTransfer's new displaylink™ feature provides greater levels of playout reporting

London, (18 Sept 2006) For the first time, screen media operators have access to fast, simple and accurate media compliance reporting. Using the RemoteTransfer™ content management system from Digital View, managers can now determine accurate playout data and whether individual screens on their digital signage network are working properly.

The question of reporting is highly topical for the advertising driven screen media industry as well as other users of digital signage. If screen media is to be accepted by retailers, brand owners and planners as an effective and valuable addition to traditional advertising and marketing media, it must be seen as reliable. This means that network operators must be able to demonstrate that media players are not merely operating as planned, but that the whole system right through to the display is working properly. If they are not, operators need to know when and where "failures" have occurred.

Existing attempts to solve to this issue have involved impractical levels of data, computational power and management time. The approach taken with RemoteTransfer, however, comes as an integral part of its network management architecture, through its complete end-to-end content management solution. This makes it extremely easy to query and control any size of network.

RemoteTransfer™ works with Digital View's established range of media players, to give clients full control of file, schedule and network management, as well as distribution and monitoring. Using RS-232 connectivity, the displaylink™ connection provides remote control of functions such as Set Status On/Off, Query Status (i.e is the screen on/off?) and Set Audio Volume for a range of supported screens. The result is simple and accurate reporting on players and locations, and reports of actual playout logs from the players themselves rather than from planning documents.

"This solution goes to the heart of a key industry issue," commented James Henry, Chairman of Digital View, "in that it helps to address the question of confidence. If screen media is to realise its considerable potential, it's important that those who invest in its use can believe they’re getting what they pay for."
