New solution cuts cost of transition to HD

A new interface controller from Digital View has significantly reduced the cost of implementing High Definition in professional and broadcast video applications

London, UK (5 June 2006)The latest product in Digital View's recently introduced Professional Class series of display interface controllers is a highly cost-effective, off-the shelf panel which supports super-high resolution running through co-ax cable for broadcast TV and professional video applications. The product cuts the cost of transition to High Definition, usually achieved through the purchase of a high-end adapter kit, very significantly.

The new solution consists of the SVH-1920 controller board and optional HD-SDI interface module, designed for high-definition, professional monitor applications. The SVH-1920 is a fully buffered multi-sync interface controller that provides analog and digital connection - PC, DVI & Video Interface - for a wide range of TFT LCD panels up to WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels). Featuring full screen image expansion of lower resolutions, image flip and invert functions, and onscreen PIP functions, the SVH-1920 also supports an available High-Definition Serial Digital Interface (HD-SDI) adapter for professional and broadcast video applications.

The SVH-1920 is the latest addition to Digital View's new Professional Class video controller family, featuring advanced capabilities, support and custom development paths for OEM clients. With its connectivity to the optional HD-SDI daughter board, the panel offers an inexpensive, off-the shelf panel that supports super high resolution running through co-ax cable for broadcast TV and professional video applications. Typically, the transition to HD requires a high-end adapter kit, which may cost several times us much as the new Digital View solution. Also, with the DV panel, users get a system with the power and stability to handle multi-format, graphics-intensive projects combined with the ability to move seamlessly between HD and SD.

The SVH-1920 with available HD-SDI offers the comprehensive feature set and support that forms the Controller Development Suite at the basis of the Professional Class concept:

  • Panel Development Kit Users can customize the output timing of the controller board to match a particular LCD, enabling advanced monitor manufacturers to quickly adapt to support the newest LCD panels.
  • Serial Port Utility Permits control of all monitor functions via the controller serial port. Using a proprietary protocol, remote adjustments of basic monitor functions (contrast, brightness, switching video inputs, adjust gamma control) can be performed.
  • User-Defined DDC (Display Data Channel) Kit Enables OEM users to configure the controller's DDC data to identify the monitor's characteristics to the display adapter. The DDC is used to pass Extended Display Identification Data (EDID), which is stored in the controller and describes its capabilities in terms of maximum resolution, refresh frequency etc. This feature ensures that the response being sent by the controller will correctly match the resolution of the LCD panel being used, according to Digital View.

  • Embedded Branding Kit This enables OEM customers to brand their product by loading a bitmap logo into the controller that is displayed during initialization screen and repeated throughout the on-screen menu displays.

The compact SVH-1920 measures 179mm x 120.4mm (7" x 4.74"), is RoHS compliant, and offers high reliability (calculated MTBF is in excess of 100,000 hours) and a full 3-year warranty. The HD-SDI daughter board module measures 76.2mm x 88.9mm (3.0" x 3.5") and connects to the SVH-1920 via a right angle connector and ribbon cable. It enables the SVH-1920 to support two channels of HD-SDI input and provide regenerated outputs for upstream HD-SDI devices.
